Legacy data conversion may seem time consuming and expensive, however the inability to access data in a single location creates department frustration. Mosaic’s technical expertise will ensure that your data is accurately migrated, providing maximum value in your new solution.

Data Conversion

Typically this is done in a phased approach.
Data Migration Discovery Phase – This is where we determine the amount of data that needs to be transferred and from which systems, how the data is meshed and where it is going. Any proof of concepts are contained within this to make sure it can be taken from system A and imported to system B. A rough working draft of a mapping document that comes from the main system requirements is used to give a more accurate fiscal and time estimate. Part of the mapping should also be an assessment of the source(s) data to determine if it will need to be massaged or if it is even populated enough to warrant migration.
Designing The Data Migration – Our first step is to decide if this is going to be a big bang or a segmented migration of data. Moving data in a big bang method depends on how much data there is to process and how long it takes as well as the userbase’s tolerance for downtime during the switch over. If we decide to segment or trickle the data then we typically will do it based on open and closed matters and pre-load the closed matter data along with related information and files and assume that data has been locked down with no changes. Once we have chosen the method we begin to create a workflow and the steps in which the data will need to be loaded.
Building the migration – Here we build the various connectors, transformations and mapping that we need to from source and target systems and run small subsets of data in that allows us to test all of the various connectors and transformations that are occurring.

Migration Test Plans – Documented test plans for auditing of the migration beyond just the usual testing of row counts

Full Test of Migration – Here we run the complete migration pre production
Audit of the Migration Test – Using the migration test plans that have already been developed we and the client inspect the data to make sure everything looks as it should and came over correctly.

It is assumed that there will be no more than 1-2 full tests of migration.
